Kalimpong was once a part of the kingdom of Sikkim and was ruled by the Bhutanese and later by the British. It was an important trading center for tea, timber, and wool during the British colonial era. After India’s independence, it became a part of West Bengal.

The best time to visit Kalimpong is from March to May and September to November when the weather is pleasant and the skies are clear. Avoid visiting during the monsoon season (June to August) as the area receives heavy rainfall and landslides are common.
