History Of That Place

The name Sundarbans is derived from the words “Sundari trees” which are found in large numbers in the forest. The Sundarbans has a rich history that dates back to the 16th century when the area was ruled by the Mughal Empire. In the 18th century, the British East India Company established a presence in the region and began exploiting the forest for its timber resources. The Sundarbans became a protected area in the early 20th century and was declared a national park in 1984.

Best Time To Visit

The best time to visit Sundarbans is between October and March when the weather is pleasant and the chances of spotting wildlife are high. The monsoon season from June to September is not a good time to visit as the forest is flooded, and many areas are inaccessible.

How To Reach

The nearest airport to Sundarbans is Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata. From there, you can take a train or bus to Canning, which is the nearest town to the Sundarbans. From Canning, you can take a boat to reach the forest.
